I am currently 5 weeks pregnant which was identified in my blood work yesterday when I went to the ER for heavy bleeding and cramps. After the vaginal exam and ultrasound the doctor stated that I was in the process of a miscarriage. I was sent home to allowed it to pass through however, I'm confused because my cervix is still closed. Today I'm having slight bleeding but painful cramp . Can this still be a miscarriage with a closed cervix?

Unfortunately, you may be in the early stages of a miscarriage. Did the ER doctor tell you to contact your own gynecologist to follow up? Sometimes you can experience what is called a threatened miscarriage, with bleeding and cramping, but your cervix isn't open. Follow up is very important in that situation.
