    Hi

I live in Europe now, but did live in NY for most of my life. I just received a letter forwarded by a niece to me here that a company from early to mid 90's has put a judgement against me in the civil court of NY.

My niece happen to get this through a fourth party, and then she sent to me. The court papers are in there and says filed on Jan of 2007. Now they only allow 30 days to respond after the court file date. Which as you can see is way past.

I thought that after 6 years the debt is null and void? I have lived here for 6 years and did not use cards for perhaps since 96. What do I do?

A debt is NEVER null and void. You signed a contract and that remains in effect. However, There is a time limit on how long they have to sue you over the debt. You would have to have someone represent you in a motion to vacate the judgement. You can cite the Statute of Limitations laws that they waited too long.
