The water pressure in our bathroom faucet is suddenly very high. We had some discolored water for a few seconds, and then noticed the pressure was much higher than normal. What could have caused this?

It could just be that the faucet aerator has some gunk in it and caused a spike in pressure... clean aerator and see if that helps.
Otherwise, if you find this increase in pressure at other faucets, my guess would be that your pressure reducing valve is shot and needs to be replaced. You can usually find these on the water main near your water meter.
