My laptop goes black and shuts down, why?
My Acer laptop is 4-5 years old. After maybe 10-15 minutes of use the screen will go black and it shuts down, I have to restart. Anyone know why?

    Thank you

Just as an "EWAG", I would think that the fan is clogged or not working and it has overheated and shuts down. Of course that is just one of several possibilities.

    Need a lot more information
1). Is it hot when it shuts down?
2). Fans running even when it is just idle?
3). When was the last time the OS was reinstall or are you working on the factory install?
4). Does this happen if you just boot into boot menu? (Press F8 while booting and just leave it there).
5). Do you have a updated virus scanner?
6). Do you, and be honest, surf questionable web sites? Porn? Torrent? Hacker/cracker? Or just dodgy sites?

What we need to narrow down is whether it is, as catsonville suggested, a hardware problem or a software problem. Computers, though laptops are known for this mostly, have fans and heat syncs that get clogged with dust and become inefficient. Most computers have sensors that will shut down the computer before it gets to a temperature where the chip could burn out. If that's the case all you need to do is get a can of air and give it a good blow job. Clear out the dust and particles. If it is software then something has compromised your system and it will be a lot harder to get that fixed.

Looks like your both right. Bottom is hot, I took a can of air and sprayed it. That worked. Another question, can I safely remove the bottom cover without things jumping out, to give it a good cleaning? Thank you

Is it safe for me to remove bottom cover
You guys were right that it was going off because of getting hot. I sprayed it with can air, it helped. Can I remove the bottom cover without parts shooting out? So I can give it a good blow out Thank you

Look on the bottom of the laptop. Often you'll see little images beside many of the screws - this help remove the keyboard for instance, or the cover to upgrade RAM.

Get a bit of tape to put the screws on that you take out - that way you won't lose them :-)
