Replace Light - Switch is OFF - Will I get a shock?
Hi. Pretty basic question. UK Domestic Wiring

I want to upgrade an existing light. If I ensure the light switch is OFF will I get a shock when I disconnect the wiring connections? I know I should turn off the supply at the main Consumer Unit but I want to avoid this if possible for such a small job.
    Kind regards, Chriss

Hi chriss, a small job that can kill you! Knock the breaker and check with a meter to ensure there is no power.

Not sure of how they wired your circuit but if the power is to the box and not the switch, you can get shocked with the switch off since power is live at the ceiling box. You have 240 too, so be careful.
