    Tax H1B and dependent
Currently I am on H1B and working in US since 2005. I got married in Dec 2006 but my wife is coming to US in April on L1. Can I file taxes jointly for tax year 2006 and get tax benefits

You must file as a resident and you can file jointly. You must obtain an ITIN for your wife.

    Hi,

I came to US in Oct -06 alone. My wife and kid were in india tinn Mar-07 when they came here. I filed my tax returns individually thinking that they are not eligible for tax exemption. My friends told me that they can be included now and I can apply for tax amendment. My earning were $10000 last year. How much can I get more as a return. I already got $1000 for my earlier filing.

Yes, you CAN file jointly with your wife if you BOTH choose to be treated as resident aliens. If that choice is made, the residency status also applies to the child, so you can claim the child as well IF the child was with the mother the entire year.
