We have been trying to conceive for the last four years with no luck. I do not want to hear "it will happen" because that's only stating the obvious. I have heard rolling on your back and lifting your legs after sex, and we've tried it with no luck. Anything helpful will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Have you actually seen a doctor for testing to find out why you haven't conceived after 4 years of trying? That would be the first step. You both have to be tested to see what's going on, what may be causing this infertility.

Bottom line, it takes the average couple 1-2 years to conceive once they actively start trying. At four years you're well past that time frame, and at this point you need to speak to a medical professional to find out why it's not happening.

There's absolutely nothing anyone online can say or do to help you with this.

On a side note, I saw your post in the thread about the teen that had to go to bed without supper once in her life. You strongly disagreed with the moms that posted on that thread that said that this was okay.

I hope that once you become a mom, and have a child that is acting like every child, which means disobeying you, that you'll change your tune. It's not black and white, there are many shades of grey, and making a child go to bed without dinner once in their life (something I've never done, but don't discourage) is not abuse like you suggested.

Once you become a mom you'll realize that all the ideals you have right now, mean nothing, because you haven't had to deal with being a parent.

In other words, until you've had to discipline a child, you really shouldn't be admonishing those that have children and are doing the best they can. There's no right or wrong way, unless you abuse a child, in which case it's obviously wrong.

I vividly remember looking down on parents and how they parented, before I had kids of my own. Once I had my own children I really wanted to apologize to all the parents I admonished before, because I knew nothing until I had to do it myself. That's a very good lesson for you.

Conception isn't just about positioning and timing (ovulation), it is also about healthy eggs and sperm. After 4 years of actively trying the only advice that can be given is that both you and your husband need to visit a doctor to determine why you haven't conceived.

It took us about 6 years of trying. After about the 2nd year with no results, we went through a battery of tests, I had surgery and other things. After 4 years, you should be discussing this with a fertility specialist. If you haven't then I would say you are not seriously trying.

To reiterate what everyone else is saying, it is most definitely time for medical intervention. Either one or both of you may have issues that make conception difficult, but there is nothing left to do know until you seek professional help.
