Trying to figure out roof pitch will it be a 4/12 or 5/12. My ridge board is 2 ft higher than my top plate

The height (in inches) divided by the run (in feet) equals the pitch.

    24 / 7 = 3.428
    Pitch is 3.43 in 12.

In reality the pitch will be slightly less. If you are using 2x4 rafters and cut a notch to the center of the rafter,
the difference in the height of the top edge of the rafter at the ridge will be 22.5" (24 - 1.5) above the top edge
of the rafter at the wall, giving you a 3.21 in 12 pitch (22.5" / 7).

In order to give you an exact answer, we need to know the run as well as the height. If the ridge board is located at center between the 2 outside walls then run is 1/2 that distance.

I saved this from years ago. Not exactly a pitch question, but lots of good info.
