My husband has cirrhosis of the liver. He has been very ill for four days now. Started with chills, fever.rapid breathing. Hehas mostly been asleep, but when he is awake he is very disoriented.I am pretty sure he has hepatic encephalopathy.how serious is this? Should I get him to a hospital? He improved slightly for a few minutes last night. But he has been asleep for almost 14 hours now. Got up one time at 7am to pee.

OF COURSE. You should not be diagnosing something that serious, on top of something serious (I assume that a doctor diagnosed the cirrhosis).
You would have called his family doctor 3 days ago. If he doesn't have one, and just goes to a hospital and sees whichever doctor is on call, then it's time to to get one. After you get him to the hospital NOW.
