    Yes! You are correct. As the pendulum swings the earth is rotating underneath it causing its trajectory to change. It is called Coriolis Force and there are a number of ways it can be observed including this one. Jean Foucault wrote about this in the mid 1800's, he led an experiment that involved hanging a large pendulum from the Pantheon and observing the change in direction as it swung throughout the day.
