Granitic Gniess also has alternating bands of light and dark colord minerals, caused by dissolution and reprecipitation of minerals during the metomophic procecees. Marble, (metemorphosed limestone) also has this property.
I have never seen metemophosed sand stone (other wise known as quartzite) to have alternating light and dark bands, however, I have not seen every thing, so I could be wrong.
