Hi my name is Ambrea. I'm 18 years old and me and my boyfriend been having unprotected sex for 2 years. My period was on September 9th-13th. We had sex during my period, before, and after, even during my ovulation. This month my period was on October 9th and only lasted 2 days. I been having headaches, using the bathroom a lot, headaches, get tired a lot, I'm eating a lot and often feel like throwing up. I've put on weight as well. I started getting lots of acne on my forehead and I took one pregnancy test but it came out negative. But I know I haven't even feeling myself, what can this be?

When did you take the pregnancy test? You could try another if it wasn't recent, see your doctor for a blood test, or wait until next month and see what happens with your period at that time.

The bleeding you had on Oct. 9 may have just been an off cycle. You could be fighting an illness, could be experiencing this because of hormonal shift, or it could be pregnancy. Are your periods usually very regular? Have you been trying to become pregnant for the last two years or just leaving it to chance?

Yes, I usually have regular periods. I have a 28 day cycle and it usually comes on time for 5 days. And no we haven't been trying to get pregnant. What kind of illness do you mean?

Something as simple as a gastrointestinal illness or touch of the flu for example. If you continue to feel unwell, you may want to see your doctor and they can do either a urine test or a blood test for pregnancy in office. Did you take the pregnancy test within the last few days?

Yes the day after my period stopped, I'm guessing that was to soon?

Some women get an early positive result, but most have to wait longer. If you have been feeling the nausea, headaches, tiredness, increased urination, etc. for awhile, I'd try another test, or again, just go in to see your doctor.

If you have been having unprotected sex for two years, you absolutely have been trying to get pregnant. That comment (that you haven't been) is ridiculously ignorant. What exactly do you think you would do different than you have been doing to "try"?

Well, let's see... the "withdrawl method" is listed as a "method" of pregnancy prevention by Planned Parenthood, it has a much lower rate of effectiveness over other, more traditional birth control methods. If done correctly, it is claimed that 4 out of 100 women will become pregnant, if done incorrectly then that number increases to a whopping 27 out of 100 women becoming pregnant.

Condoms are not the only option for you to use in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy. While I didn't say it, I personally also do find it a bit ignorant to simply state that "We just don't like using condoms." as a reason to not utilize a birth control method that is 99.9% effective if you are actively not trying to get pregnant.

According to the CDC, the only similar "method" of birth control you refer to would be the family planning method, where you don't have sex or actually use some form of birth control during the days of the month you are most likely to be fertile (9 or more days) - if your cycle is regular - then the effective rate is approximately 76% effective.

Yes, it sounds like you took the test too soon for it to be accurate.

Urine tests can be done at home or in a doctor's office. Many women first choose a home pregnancy test to take about a week after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests are private and convenient.

Also, there are many clinics that offer free pregnancy testing, at least in the U.S. in many states.

Two years of unprotected sex,not paying any attention to when you are ovulating... using the "pulling out" method... I have heard a lot about that method back when I worked in adoption. The story went, "my boyfriend didn't like using condoms and he always pulled out, so I have no idea how I got pregnant". Then they woukd start looking at pictures of waiting couples to place their " impossible" but very real baby for adoption.

If you are adult enough to have sex, you need to take adult measures to protect yourself. You are also risking AIDS and hepatitis and a bunch of other diseases. If the boyfriend doesn't want a condom he shouldn't get you. Sure, he is faithful and committed to you... until he isn't. Nothing against your relationship but most do not last. Most guys get another girl before they drop the last one. That overlap when he might be with two of you puts your life at risk. Your method is definitely an effort to get pregnant, and also to get sick. Please see a doctor for reliable birth control, and insist on a condom, every time.

Why pulling out, is even listed as a "method" is really beyond my understanding, it will lower the amount of sperm but then the man sitting in a very hot tub can also but that is not listed.

Even condoms have a 3 to 18 percent failure rate.

Unless you are using medical testing, for ovulation dates you do not really know your dates. Online or phone apps are estimates and not exact. For some women they are not even close

In answer of the pregnancy issue, it is hard to tell at this point since it is early, you need to be about two week late, to even start testing.

Be sure when you test to always use first urine of the morning.

Ignorant may have been a little harsh, but humorous was how I saw it, unprotected sex for 2 years, even during ovulation ( if you actually know) is of course trying to get pregnant, you may not be saying the words, trying, but your actions prove it.

Seriously, if you actually believe "pulling out" is a form of birth control, you REALLY need to get an education on human reproduction.

Have you ever had on old garden house that leaked water everywhere all the time even when the little valve at the end was closed. Its impossible to coil one up and move it around without getting your hands wet. And you never even need to turn the spray nozzle on to do it.

A penis is no different. If he's excited... then he is leaking sperm. The only difference in before an after is not if you are going to get wet, but how much will get on you.

And nobody ever gets "a little bit pregnant" anymore than someone ever gets "a little bit dead". Those are all or nothing situations....no middle ground.

You could legitimately experience shock ONLY if either of you has medically been determined to be infertile. But I don't see that this is the case. One must assume it going to happen eventually if no real measures are taken absent any situation that would guarantee its impossible.

So, were you hoping for a boy or girl? Twins maybe?
