Greetings,

I am getting ready to put a bathroom in the basement of my 18yr old house. Plumbing was roughed in by builder. The picture I attached is of what I think is the shower drain but I have never see. Anything like it before. There is a 2" cast iron pipe with a rubber doughnut around it surrounded by another cast iron collar. What is the collar for and is this actually a shower drain? Thanks in advance for your responses.

That photos is so large, it is hard to say whether it is a shower drain or not. That "donut" is no problem as there is always a way to attach new pipe to it. Problem is to find out whether it is a drain or vent. First, take a bucket full of water and pour it inside this pipe. Then, take a flash light, point it down the pipe and see if there is standing water. Are there any other pipes in that room ? Also, can you step back and take wider shot so we can relate position of this pipe to other pipes and walls in that room ?

Floor does not already slope towards drain, the drain pipe shown in the first picture is approx 16" from one wall and 17" from the other. The other hole shown in the picture on this post is 9 1/2" from the wall for what I assume is the toilet. You can also see the vent pipe behind where the toilet drain is. Sorry for the disjointed conversTion as I am on my phone and can barely post

Also, I dumped water down it and it drained with evidence of water sitting there so I believe its already "trapped"

Would that 16" be from a outside wall? What size is the other hole and how far is it from another wall? Take your hammer and whack around the small hole/ Is the cement thinner around the pipe? Any more details to give me? Back to you, Tom

The frame you see in the picture is up against a below grade foundation wall. Basement is walkout so both are above where septic tank is. The other hole is about 4". Cast iron pipe starting a few inches below concrete 9-10" away from framing. Thanks for the help Tom

Nah, it's a shower drain. Speaking of toilet drains though whoever roughed in the one in my basement didn't do anyone any favors. The top of the hubless cast is 4" below floor. Needless to say I am having difficulty finding a flange...

What is the hubless piece connected to and how is it connected? Lead joint? Other? Back to you, Tom
