    Missing Partition
Hello, I recently installed 40 gig HD and installed the new OS on this 40 gig. I also have a 60 gig HD and it wasn't touched but somehow it lost a partition. Of course this particular partition has all my work on it, :(  , is there a way to make sure that all is OK on this drive and perhaps find the missing partition? Need any further info please let me know!
    Thanks

Try start / all programs /administrative tools /computer management /disk management and see if you can find it.
You might just have to rename it. -- Savage

After clicking on the start, I don't have 'all programs' just 'programs'. Then I do not the following chices 'administrative tools/computer management/disk management'. My OS is Win 2000. Does this make a difference?

Well that was not very nice of you -- this is from memory so I might be off a bit [And you know what they say about potheads]
    Start/ settings/control panel/ administrative tools /computer management /disk management

Then the same as above -- I am sure curly ben will be along to correct me if I am wrong -- Savage

Type "diskmgmt.msc" at the run prompt, will bring up the disk management window directly. :)

How many partitions did the 60G have?

Does disk management recognize the 60G hard drive? What does it say?

The only way a partition can go "Missing" is if ALL partitions were deleted. In this case, disk management will show a 60G partition as unformatted or RAW, or something like that.

If a partition was deleted, disk management should still show that a partition once existed, but is now free space, unformatted or RAW, or something similar.

Your missing partition could simply be no drive letter was assigned. Disk Management will let you assign one, and it will appear in My Computer.
