    State Water Heater Model PR650NBRT, S# B00173926
After repeated attempts to to relite and keep the pilot lit, I tried to remove the thermocouple and clean it and/or repair. When I attempted to loosen the thermo from the gas control valve the screw in housing on the unit sheared off. I need to replace the gas control valve but can not find a replacement or compatible part. Is there one that will work with this model?
I am a first timer to water heaters, a female, and while I am pretty adept at DIY, I am a little hinkey on this. I can't afford another water heater right now so I really need to try and repair this one, if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help you could provide.

Sounds like you just broke off the thermocouple from the gas valve,go to the hardware store and buy a replacement thermocouple, remove the old part with a wrench or visegrips and install new part.Does not sound as though you need a new gas valve.

    Hi Cindy

If sparky is right, then a thermocouple should be all you need. If you actually broke the "housing" and need a replacement gas valve all you should need to do is to contact state industries at the following link:

Water Heater Parts | Hot Water Heater Accessories | State Industries

You will need the model number and the serial number on the rating plate that is located at the front center of the water heater.

    Questions... let us know, OK?
