Best Brands for Sliding Glass Doors
Hi everyone. The wife and I are seriously considering having a professional install a sliding glass door.

Assuming a standard size, what brand would those who install these recommend? I live in Lower New York State so I need something good for the cold weather. Most of the advice you guys have given has been really helpful.

If someone is going to cut an 8x10 hole in the side of my house, I have to know I can keep the heat in.

    I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks..

Anderson is a good, competitively priced, brand. Pella is better brand. Gives more options such as mini-blinds or grill work inside the panes. Go with aluminum or PVC clad, at least on the exterior. Look at how the screen works. Ideally it should slide in a channel, not on a ridge. That way screen could be replaced with generic brand later if need be.

I agree about Andersen quality (no o) and there is more than one model, so get the best (highest price). And no tax for low-e.

But beware of the actual opening. When I bought them, a 6' wide only opened about 32" tops, because the handle hit. They may have changed that.

(Why do you say 8 x 10? A typical door height is 6'8, or 80". And why 10' wide? 3 doors?)

Sorry joy... yes, it is the typical 6'8" high... standard size.
