What happens to back child support that I owe if the child dies?
Hello I owed back child support about $60,000 . I'm disabled n I get disability n ssi , but still I've been paying my arrears . But tragically my daughter passed away recently. So what happens to the money that's owed? Do I still pay or what happens ? Don't want to sound like a bad person or heartless but I really have to know . So if anyone that knows or have experience please , please reply . Thank you so kindly .

Yes, Child support is money paid to the custodial parent for the costs of supporting the child. While you should not have to pay any further support, you still owe the arrears.

I am so sorry for the loss of a child. We have boards if you wish to discuss any of those issues. Also there should be access to grief support groups.

There should be no future and current support due. But as noted, the back support is for that time, when the child was alive and payment should have been made. It is owed and should be paid.
