Will it start with the safety switches reinstalled by jumping the solenoid?
Hi,
What do you mean by jumping the solenoid? Two separate actions are called this; and each is correct in its own way.
The first way is to use a screwdriver, heavy wire or such to bridge the high-amperage poles thereby taking it out of circuit. This checks the ignition ground circuit, the starter and the battery if it starts.
The second way is to take a piece of wire from the battery side pole to the trigger circuit connection to see if the solenoid activates and turns the engine over. This is a more conclusive test as it checks the ignition ground circuit, the solenoid, the starter and the battery if it cranks.
As I have repeatedly said, the two most failed electrical components are the solenoid and the ignition(key) switch. The switch has multiple circuits and one can fail and the others work; as in the ignition circuit still shutting off the engine and the start circuit failing, the most common failure point of the switch.
Peace,
Clarke
