    Grandchildren raised by grandparents
My daughter left her two daughters to our care. Our oldest granddaughter has been with us since she was 7 months old, she will soon be 9 years old in November. Our other granddaughter, who just turned 7, has lived with us since her birth. During that time we provided everything for them. Fed them, clothed them, made sure they had all their immunizations. Took them to the doctor when they were sick, we even enrolled them in school, when they reached school age. Can we get Guardianship or custody of them. Her husband divorced her for infidelity, first granddaughter. Second granddaughter was from her boyfriend.

During the divorce, did she get custody of the child? Will the mother sign over guardianship to you.

    1. how do you register the child in school, 2. get medical care,

Without the parent to sign for all of this.

You should try to work with the mother on it, and it is much easier if she will merely sign for it. If not, of course, the mother could come and demand her children back at any time,

You should have gotten guardianship as soon as they were left with you. Legally you have no rights to care for them and the school and their doctors have been remiss in allowing you to register them or authorize medical treatment. What did you tell them to get them to allow it. That could get you in trouble.

I'm assuming here that the husband doesn't want anything to do with them since he believe they aren't his. However, the older child is legally his unless a court absolved him of paternity. In that case, the bio fathers have a say here.

I strongly suggest you contact a local Family Law attorney to work on getting you guardianship and, maybe later, custody. You need someone who knows the local laws to tell you what mistakes you have made.

Agreeing with the above, and also wondering why you don't mention what your daughter is saying. Are you asking now because she wants them back, or what?
