I'm not talking about peroxide you can buy at the store for 80 cents a bottle. I mean the kind made for lightening hair. I was hoping there could be someone out there who could just give me a few tips on how to use it.

You will find different strength volume peroxide developers at your local beauty supply store. Most hair color will come with its own peroxide developer. If you are planning to get a hair color and developer separately, you will need to use equal parts hair color and developer, then mix them together and apply the mixture to your hair.
If your hair is dark and you want to go more than 3 shades lighter, minus the red/orange shade, then you would have to go to the salon and get the color done by a professional hairstylist.
