Currently I am accessing the internet from the wireless card on my PC. It is connecting to a DSL Actiontec Wireless Router (or modem?). That Router also is connected to my dad's PC with a ethernet cable. My wireless signal has to carry pretty far so I'm thinking it would be much better if I could also have a router. I have a phone connection right next to my computer so it would be convenient.

My question is how to set this up. Is it possible to both have a router and share the same DSL connection? I don't want to do any kind of a network between our computers, so I thought another little box would make sense, but I'm thinking that the two boxes might not be able to share the connection unless they are setup right.

Any help would be very appreciated. Especially very specific instructions for doing so... Maybe even models of routers to get.

What you are suggesting is possible. One solution is a WAP device, that is located centrally in the house. I won't go into details on how to connect one, but Google is your friend here.

Another fairly simple solution would be buy a range boosting antenna for the wireless PC such as this.

It is an antenna that provides about 7 dbi of gain, meaning it is more sensitive to RF signals, and hence can pull in the weak signals from a distance. Note: There is no guarantee of significant increase in signal strength although many good reviews on the net.:)

I'm actually considering one myself, for use in my basement PC to connect to the router on the 2nd floor.

Rather than add a second router, you would be better off using either a bridge, repeater or high gain antenna.

If your like me, I tend to go the more difficult route just to try and figure it out, but if your not too familiar with wireless networking I wouldn't recommend getting a second router, or a WAP.

I'd say try the high gain antenna first. If it don't work well, you can always return it :)
