    Discrimination
Policy Manual prohibiting harassment, discrimination or unlawful retaliation in the workplace.

My question is: General Manager takes a employee and only that employee to lunch on occasions for no merit reasons. Can this be viewed by other employees as discrimination, favoritism, unethical?

Not unless there is a company policy regarding this. How do you know it is without merit. Is the mgr. paying the bill?

Its not unethical in many cases... in fact it happens quite often. This isn't elementary school where you can't eat candy if you didn't bring enough for the entire class.

But it all boils down to if there is no written company policy against it... and I'm guessing there probibly isn't. Then there is nothing wrong with it. I doubt they are plotting a secret plan for a hostile takeover of the business... and its nothing more than two people having lunch.

This appears to be a non work related lunch.

    He is not harassing anyone.

He does not appear to be doing any illegal discrimination. Remember, discrimination has to deal with a protected class of people, is this person, the only women, or is this person the only Irish person?
