Breaker not snapping back on buss bars
    Hi,
I removed an old breaker to replace it and the wiring was a mess so I removed another to straighten up the wires a bit and that one won't snap back in properly. The panel is an old Murray and the breaker has two 20 A breakers lugged together for a 220 load and a single 20 A attached to each side of that. One of the connection bars looks slightly bent, no idea how and the thing was in there before... I don't really want to start bending the buss connection points... Yes the main breaker is off!! Thanks for any assistance...

why not purchase and install new breakers? If you are saying that the buss in the panel is bent...you should consider a new panel.

Murray is a very good panel manufactured by westinghouse at that time. You may not be aligning the breaker quite right, tolerance is very close. Try removing the single pole breakers next to it and put the double pole in so you can see the alignment easier. Then install the nieghboring breakers back in. I seriously doubt that the bus is bent unless someone tried to force a noncapatible breaker in and actually bent it. Glad to see you turned off the main before working on the panel
