My elderly mother has lived in same San Gabriel Valley/Los ANgeles Co rental for 43 years. Little if any repairs ever done but regardless she always paid on time/no issues. She just found out from new owners A) house has been sold to them B)she cant remain there renting from them & C) they wish to demolish the house so have given her a verbal June 2014-Sept 2014 eviction date. Mom has never verbally or written agreed to vacate. She's disabled, on SSI, over 70,and lives with 2 school age kids (mine). Does she qualify for relocation funds from new owners?

She doesn't have to agree to vacate, she IS required to comply. I believe they had to give a 60 day notice (only in California)... and since this is is already August 13, they gave her more than that.

Your mother needs to find another place ASAP. Apparently she's already wasted a lot of time.

Why would she be entitled to relocation funds unless they were buying her out of a long term lease that is still in effect? I'm assuming she is month to month and has no unexpired lease at this time.

There are no relocation funds, and she does not have to agree. She can disagree to the day, they throw her out. She has to comply. If she does not move willingly, they will get her evicted in court, making it harder to find a new place.

If she is low income, she can talk to her case worker, about government subsidized housing

First, the notice to vacate NEEDS to be in writing and yes, she needs to be given a minimum of 60 days. LA County does require Relocation assistance for people in Rent Stabilized units who qualify under a specific set of rules:

Its not clear whether your mother qualifies or not. But that site should help you determine.

If the new owners have not given her written notice, then they cannot start eviction proceedings until 60 days after they do.
