    Black particles in water
After being on well water for 30 years we decided to switch to city water. Now I have big chunks of dirt or something coming out of the water lines. It stops up all the faucet filters three or four times a day. Could this be from some kind of build up in the lines from the water well? How can I fix this disgusting problem? I can't afford to replace the plumbing. Thanks

How old is your house and what material are the water pipes? Copper, galvanize or plastic? Back to you, Tom

    Hi CIndy

Do you have a whole house filter (or any water filters), or perhaps a water softener? If so, the carbon filter may have broken and is releasing particles into the main water supply. In that case, you would change out the filter or filter media and then install a new filter and you should be all set.

    Let us know more...

My house is 30 years old and has plastic pipes. No water softener but I do have a water purifier. I have removed the filter system to see if that was the culprit. It was not, I still have large flakes of some kind in the water. Kind of feels like rust but it's not colored like rust. So I'm still confused??

No filters, I've removed them all
I was on well water for years and just switched to city water. That's when the black flakes began showing up.

Have you contacted the city about this and what did they say? Back to you. Tom
