Toilet fill valve -adjusting float cup to change water level -can't lock back
Hi all, I was trying to adjust the float cup of my toilet water tank fill valve to increase the water level. As I was not too sure how to unlock it, I just fiddled with it. I pushed the red clip to try and unlock it and it did unlock. However, I can't lock it back.

After looking at my other identical toilet tank and some YouTube videos, I realise that I should have pushed it down to unlock but instead, I had pushed it up! This YouTube video will show you the type of lock I have. It is something similar to mine:

Watch it from 2:38. You can see there is a gap at the top. It is where I have pushed the red clip to (above the locked position). I can't seem to push it down (with reasonable strength) and I'm afraid I might break it if I forced it too much. It is also quite difficult to do this while the fill valve is in the tank as there is only a small space before I hit the wall of the tank.

    Appreciate any help!

Fluid Master ballcock you can adjust the level by squeezing the steel piece on vertical wire arm at the side, pulling the can up and down down. pull the can up to raise the tank level and down to lower it. Did that answer your question ? Tom

Thanks, Tom! Appreciate your help, but my fill valve is of a different type, so it locks differently.

Turn off the water supply and remove the whole valve assembly from the tank. A better look, and easier leverage may get you better results.

The float cup adjustment looks to be about the same as a FluedMaster. What are your concerns? Back to you, Tom

Bizarre! The float cup is back to locked position on its own! I had been trying to push it down but just couldn't do so. When I checked back just now, it was in the right position, so that I could adjust and lock it again! I don't understand this but... the problem is solved! Thanks Tom and talaniman for your suggestions and advise!
