    Pain under Crown
I just visited my dentist's office a second time on this issue.

I have have a four crown, 5 year old bridge, and the abutment canine tooth on the right feels -- odd. It still has a root.

Two weeks ago, the substitute dentist mine was out of town) saw me, and I explained that I had eaten popcorn a few nights before -- so the conclusion was perhaps something was stuck. He took an x-ray, and explained that you really cannot see anything under a crown in an xray(?) He also drilled the crown in question to change the shape because it was striking in the wrong places

He also gave me a 5 pack of antibiotics. Then, two days ago, I went back to my regular dentist. He looked at the same x-ray and said, well, something looked cloudy(?) He also said that I could still be feeling the residual effects of the antibiotics. Then, he said that as preventative treatment, I should be fitted for a night guard (I do grind my teeth at night). I will get it back in 2 weeks--$600.

He said that then, we could watch that tooth over the next few months to see if an endodontist is necessary, or not.

I am somewhat skeptical.. . I don't see investing $$$ when probably, the tooth is infected and probably already needs endodontic treatment. However, here I am, getting a mouth guard.

Have I done the write thing?

If you feel as mistrustful of your dentist as you seem to be then it makes far more sense to change dentists or at least to get a second opinon. When you do go for a second opinion try not to let your new dentist feel that you distrusted the professional judgment of your original dentist since they tend to take such things personally ansd an irate dentist isn't something you want to have to deal with-believe me-I know!

Please let me know what you find out. I just had a crown put in and I can not chew on that tooth at all with some type of pain.
