    What is the angle between the hour hand and minute hand of a clock when the time is 3:40 ?

    burgess, please show us that you tried to figure this out on your own. What part of the problem are you having difficulties with?

    Hint: One way to solve is to get out a clock (or draw one) and a protractor.

    No need for a protractor! Just calculate how many degrees per hour the hour hand moves, and then the angle from vertical that it would be at 3-2/3 hours after noon. Then calculate the degrees per minute that the minute hand moves, and then the angle it would be from vertical at 40 minutes past the hour. Subtract one from the other. Done.
