I have been on birth control for almost 2 years (lo ovral) and this month I skipped a few pills but when I noticed I was having breakthrough bleeding I began to take my pills every single day thinking it would stop the bleeding because it has in the past when I had forgotten to take a pill or 2. Well the bleeding didn't stop and it's been almost 3 weeks and the blood is very dark and the flow is a little lighter than usual, what can this be and what should I do? Should I continue with my pills or should I stop taking them to stop this bleeding?

Some irregular bleeding is common, but since it is prolonged, it would be wise to see your doctor as there can be several reasons for prolonged bleeding that are not associated with birth control pills.
