What if the seller disappears and doesn't send you the title?
I just bought a car from a private seller. She is england right now and her friend is selling the car for her. I checked from dmv that the car is hers and she just paid off the loan. The lienholder is going to send her the title and she said she is going to sign it and send it to me. I don't think she is going to come back to California. I tried to call her but she doesn't answer the phone. I'm afraid she is not going to send me the title. What if she disappears? Can I still get the title with the bill of sale? I feel insured because I can't reach her!! To get a new title, do I need her signature? She is not going to be there to sign.im so confused!! THANKS!

Well first of course one has to find out if she even owned the car to sell it.

If she is not the legal owner, then your purchase is merely void.
The first stop would be your county clerk ( or state DMV) depending on where you get your titles, we get ours here from the county clerk office,
Explain the situation to them and see what they have to say.

And it may depend on your state law as to if you can get a title or not,
You may have to try and press criminal charges, or sue them ( but not a lot of help if they are in england)

In general, you NEVER ( NEVER) give them money unless you get the title right then signed.

What if the car is not paid off and she still owes money for it, they can come repo it anytime they want since you could not legally buy it until the title was clear.
