Certainly... under current rules being out of the country for over a year is considered abandoning your immigration atttempt. THe rules changed because too many people were getting them as a convienience but staying elsewhere, depriving others who actually wanted to be here a chance.
Continuous Residence and Physical Presence Requirements for Naturalization | USCIS
Extended absences outside of the U.S. may disrupt an applicant’s continuous residence.
- Absences of more than six months but less than one year may disrupt an applicant’s continuous residence unless the applicant can prove otherwise, (see legal basis)
- Absences in excess of one year or more may disrupt an applicant’s continuous residence, (see legal basis)
