My remote receiver is broken on my Regency ceiling fan. I want to bypass the receiver. Which wires go with which? Currently there are two gray wires going into one side of the receiver and a brown, purple and red wire on the other side. Do I bundle them together; gray with gray and the other 3 colors together?

Knowing the color of the various does not help us. We would need a schematic of the unit to figure that out.

Is the receiver inside the fan "Toes Up" or the transmitter? If it is the transmitter, make sure that the dip switches on the transmitter match the setting on the receiver (assuming that there are in fact DIP switches)

Otherwise it would be much easier to purchase a generic transmitter from Lowe's or Home Depot.
