Do I HAVE to have a wall plate over a light fixture box that is no longer used?
Remodeling bathroom and the new sconces will be in different places than old ones. Do I have to have a wall plate over the old electrical connections? It is in a place where it would be unsightly. Are there any other options? My young designer/contractor doesn't seem all that experienced with this issue.

Yes they have to be covered with a removeable cover... you can buy blank covers you can paint to match the wall or wallpaper so they don't stand out as much... you can't cover them up with sheetrock, it's a violation of code.

You can pull the wire back to the box that it originally came from and put it there. You can also disconnect all the wiring and pull back to another box but any junction box must be accessible per NEC.

Thank you. That's what my contractor told me... I was hoping there was another option... it looks awful.

You can hide it behind a mirror, a wall plaque, towel hanger etc.
