We have a kenmore elite washing machine and it will only wash not matter what button we push

It sounds like you have a stuck relay or solenoid, possibly, or a bad connection somewhere. That washer has a lot of places for corrosion and it is built to do just that. If you have the front loader then you have a lemon. Look at videos on YouTube to learn about fixing it, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRciUp0dY-8
You will need to go through it to find bad connections and bad solenoids and switches.
