The contractor building my sister's ADA compliant SOG house installed the roll in shower drain 2.50" below the level of the finished bathroom floor. Then the bathroom cultured marble sub installed the shower floor which drops 2.25 inches from the roll-in shower threshold to the top of the drain. The problem is that the 2.25 inch slope occurs in just 30 inches. She must use this shower in a wheelchair, she is disabled and is 63 years old. The slope is so steep she will not be able to get her wheelchair out of the shower.
The builder told me there just weren't any options because there was no way to raise the level of the drain due to the house being SOG.
Is there an effective way to raise the drain and have the correct slope?

Hi Harleyfanatic and welcome, the expert plumbers will be along shortly but, for me, could you explain what a SOG house is? Thanks and hang tight for some of the more experienced people. Also it would be really helpful if you could post a picture.

What type of drain is there?Metal or plastic? If we could raise the drain then it would be possible to mud in the shower floor and tile in a more wheelchair friendly slope. t all depends on if the drain can be raised. Sound like a

SOG is a slab on grade concrete foundation. The builder didn't box out for the drain so it is set in the foundation. It is a PVC drain. As you can see the cultured marble sub stepped down the shower floor and then told the contractor that this qualified as an ADA shower. The floor has to be removed anyway. I just don't have any confidence that they will get it right the second time after seeing what they did the first time. I have looked online to see if there is anyone that carries a longer drain barrel but can't find anything. Attachment 46139Attachment 46140

Also the contractor boxed out for a rectangular shower but the plans are for a large corner shower. This leaves a large corner of the shower at the original floor elevation with no way to slope it to the drain. See pic. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.Attachment 46141

Thanks for the pictures, however, I need to see what is under the strainer. I need to know the material that the drain is made of. If the drain did the raised it may be possib of to mud in the floor and tile set a four field wheelchair friendly shower floor. It all depends on the drain. You will need a plumber to raise the drain and a tile man to tile the floor. Good luck, Tom
