    E:/ drive problems
I'm trying to burn a CD, but when I got to just drag and drop into the CD it says "E:/ is not accessible. incorrect function." And whenever I try to burn a disk with Nero, it says it's done but it wrote nothing. The device manager says it's working properly, I have no clue what's wrong with it. Message me on MSN if you can help, [email protected]

Can we assume that E is a CD burner? Has it ever worked? Do you have a CD/R or RW disk in the drive? What version of Windows? Can the drive read CDs?

    D'OH, sorry...
E is a CD-RW, and it was working yesterday or the day before. I have a blank CD-R in the drive, the drive CAN read cd's and I'm running windows XP home.

I had a problem like this once. Can't remember how I fixed it though! Have you installed any new software for you CD writer recently e.g. Nero, or how about upgrading your writers firmware? I think when I had the problem, something had screwed up the XP driver for writing to CD's.

    First thing to check:
    • Open My Computer
    • Right click on your CD writer
    • Select properties
    • Select the recording tab
    • Ensure that the "Enable Recording for this drive" checkbox is checked.

Those instructions may be a little off as I'm not on a PC with a CD writer to look at the problem. Let us know how that goes.

    CD burner
    Hi,
I also use Nero, version 5.5 Express. Since you didn't mention your Nero version, I can't give specific info.
But, I do know that my version works better using the Add from the Nero window, rather than drag and drop.
Try using the Add folders or files, see if that works for you.

Also, how old is your burner drive? If nothing else, works, you might need to get a Cleaning CD, to clean the drive.
    Best wishes,
    fredg

In addition to what LT suggested. Have you tried another CD?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the drive?

Hmmm... Using Nero 5 Burning Rom V.5.5.5.1 if that helps. Wierdly, I uninstall/reinstalled it (CD drive) and now it'll let me look at a cd, but the letter changed to H. I'm going to check to see if it works 100%.

Ok, it kind of works. It'll read a disk, but Nero doesn't let me select it as my burning device. The "Enable CD recording" or whatever is on. When I go to choose recording device, it only shows Image Recorder- Virtual Device. Any idea how I can fix this new problem?

PS: It gives me an error: "Under windows NT4/200 burn rights are required by Nero to access CD recorders and cd-rom/dvd-rom drives. Please ask your system administrator for a permission to use Nero."
Only thing is, I'm the system administrator (well, only user on the comp).

I'm not a NT system admin but it sounds like you have inadvertently changed your policy to not allow you to burn CD's. Since you are the administrator you can give yourself permission again IF you can find where.

If this is another inaccurate windows error, other things I would try are:
Remove Adaptec software if you have it. NERO and Adaptec don't play.
Go into device manager and delete your CD burner, then scan for hardware.
If that didn't work, delete the entire IDE controller and scan for new hardware.
