Hello. I have recently read and enjoyed a really good book. I donated it, and now I can not remember a thing about the title. Please help...

Story: Opens with an old woman at a funeral. Traveling back in time, she is a young aspiring writer. She falls in love with a man in the military at her brothers party downtown. He happens to leave the next day for duty. She desperately waits for him as her career flourishes. After quite a long time, they find each other again in person. He had a baby with another woman he was forced to marry. They reconnected and fell in love. She spent her life being his mistress, which the wife was aware of. He died. Many years later his wife died. Their daughter sees this old lady at her mothers funeral. She finds out that the woman had a long lasting relationship with her father. She found out she paid for her education, her college tuition, kept a scrapbook of the little girl over the years, and promised to keep the affair a secret until the mom died.
