That's a thirty two year gap, does that mean you don't know?

Look at the serial #. Everyone is different but you have a 66 and a 98. If you know it is old, most likely 1966.

It's a 2001. The seventh digit should be an 0 not a o.

The answer is correct. It is a 2001. Checking both the operators and parts manuals at MTD manual Archive:
PDF Manual Web Archive
Reveals print dates of October 2000 for both which would mean they are for the succeeding year.

PS to get either or both, type in the model number and use a 1 for the serial number. Pick the second versions of the manuals since the first is the previous year.
