I have been talking to this girl who told me that she was 19 but now she's telling me that she's 17 I'm 25 I know the age of consent is 16 but I'm just trying to make sure and find out if we could have a relationship and date each other and not get in any kind of legal trouble?

The better question is why you would even want to have anything to do with her since she lied about her age...what else is she lying about?

You need to tell us what state this is in, as laws on age of consent vary. For example while the age of consent is 16 in many states, there are others where it's a felony for a person over age 22 to engage in sexual activity with a 17-year old.

And while "dating" is literally different than sexual relations, for an adult such as OP to date a minor without her parents' consent may well get him into trouble with other criminal charges.

Besides what has already been mentioned...

If she lies about that her age right from the start... imagine what else she's lkely telling you lies about. And how easy she will lie about things in the future.

That's a good enough reason on its own to distance yourself from her. You can't trust people that dishonest...
