We are having problems with water pressure in our house. I am not a plumber, but think there must be something I can try to adjust the pressure and increase it on my own before calling in the professionals. The pressure in the tank kicks in at 30 and shuts off at 50. Should this be adjusted and how can I do this... or if you have any other suggestions... that would be great!

First turnoff the power at the breaker box, then pull the cover off the pressure switch and you will see two spring loaded bolts secured with nylon nuts. One tall, one short. To increase the cut in pressure, turn the nut on the tall bolt down. To increase the cut out pressure,(that's the one that will give you more pressure) turn the nut on the short bolt down. This should give you the additional preesur you desire. How old is your home and what are the water pipes made of. If you have a older home with galvanized piping my answer might not help much.
