My ex boyfriend has a dad who is in the hospital and has mrsa, also known as merca. It is a contagious skin infection that is very hard to treat, and they have to wear suits when visiting him. My ex wants to bring our 5mnth old to visit him, but the doctors did not recommend it, and I'm completely 100% opposed to the idea of risking my babies health and safety. I feel bad, and I am sure they all hate me for it. What would you do if put in this situation? Am I being cruel or unreasonable? Also I have let him bring the baby to visit him before he got mrsa, a few times, so he has met her and got to hold her. Also, if anyone is wondering my ex is very dead set on his dad seeing her because his dad keeps asking, but he is very out of it due to his brain cancer, and I don't know if he understands that he is contagious or even why he is in the hospital in the first place. Opinions anyone? Has anyone had any experience with mesa, or have been in a situation such as this?

Do not, under any circumstance, take your babe to see this person. Most likely the hospital will not even allow it.

I doubt they would allow it as well. Keep in mind that at 5 months old, her immune system is still immature. It would be unwise to take the chance of having her around someone knowingly ill... no matter what the illness was.

Thank you, it is good to know that putting my babies health first does not make me a heartless person. I will make sure to my best ability that this does not happen, but no one else on their family seems to understand my concern. His sister brings her 3yr old there ''all the time and he doesn't have it yet''. But that is not my business, as it is her child not mine.

The upsetting part of this is a doctor wrote him a note saying it shouldn't be a problem. I also don't think my ex mentioned how old she is.

Is the note on the doctor's prescription pad? I'd sure check with that doctor first to find out why he would allow such a thing because, like the others have told you, exposing a baby or a child to MRSA would be a terribly irresponsible thing to do.

It shouldn't be a problem unless the MRSA is in his lungs and airborne, but why risk it? I know the hospital I work at would not allow it.

The hospital has a policy children younger than 10 may not visit patients isolated for contagious diseases.
