What were the Beginings of E-mail?
Can anyone find out about the real beginning of e-mail. More importantly the first e-mail. Some say it was Leonard Kleinrock at Ucla, some say it was Ray Tomlinson, others say it was on the cCompatible time-sharing system at MIT. Can anyone sort it out. Please tell where the info was found.

Here's some articles I found by googling 'e-mail history'

    http://livinginternet.com/e/ei.htm
    http://www.ifla.org/documents/internet/hari1.txt
    http://www.multicians.org/thvv/mail-history.html

A lot depends on how you want to look at things. Systems like MIT's CTSS were small closed systems. Corporations also had their own closed systems. It wan't until ARPANET that a more universal and global e-mail started to emerge. That was the forerunner of the system we use today.
