    Hair follicle test Australia
    Hello Dr Bill,

I'm an Aussie 37 year old male. I was a daily cone smoker of 0.5 grams a day for about 3 years straight. I have to say that I always mixed with tobacco, 2 cigarettes per 0.5 gram of pot. Even my mates told me I was excessive with the spinner.

Any how I started to stop in march, 2014 having only 4 separate smokes in that month. Then I totally stopped in April besides one solitary cone mid way through. I kept abstaining through May except for 3 cones 10 days ago after a friend passed away. I know it wasn't the smartest thing for me to do to myself but I guess it was a way of far-welling a mate with other mates.

Finally the question I have is that I have a hair follicle test this Tuesday. I'm really freaking out about it because of those last 3 cones. My hair is short only 0.5 inch at the moment and I understand that the test will only go back in the last month. My question is, do you think I'll be over the 100pg/mg threshold and the follow up confirmation test?

Sorry for the long winded question but these are my facts and I was hoping you could give me your honest opinion. I'm freaking out and I am gearing up for the worst but I can never give up on hope.

Thank you so much for your time.

    Dr Bill isn't here anymore.

You do know that if the hair is too short on your head, they will look to take it from somewhere else, right? And if it's shaved everywhere else, they will assume you're looking to cheat. Given the amount you were smoking, and the fact that you say you almost quit in March but then did more in April, you have a real good chance of failing the test. Can't say for sure because everyone is different but it doesn't look good for you.

Hey there, thanks for the reply. Yeh I know it's short but I've checked with the lab and they said they will accept a minimum of 0.5 inch. As I said I don't have a good feeling about this but I'm being honest about the fact that I only had 4 cones total in the last 2 months together with the fact that I mix a lot of tobacco. I just can't find any reliable information in regards to marijuana thc levels with relation to amount consumed.

And that is where the problem is...seems that nobody really knows for sure because everyone is slightly different. These tests are supposed to show consistent use over time and the question is, are you considered a consistent user? I am guessing so because of your intake up until March...and then you added more to it in April. You could get lucky...I've seen it happen.

    Lets hope so. Thanks

I think I should clarify what a cone means down under. It is not a rolled paper cone as the Americans call them but the metal cone piece in a water bong. Hope this helps :)

As was said, they're going to go for a place that they can find the good sample. If they can get more from your armpit or pubic hair than that's where they're going to go. They're going to look for about 90 days because that's going to show habitual use. Your usage in may and April alone is almost enough to damn you but the amount you did in march will probably put you over the edge. You really don't have a good chance at passing.

I hope it wasn't for anything important. I also admire you giving up pot. That could be a very positive first step to a new life. The problem now will be back sliding, as you did after your friend died. Those situations, stressful or emotional, will always cause a user of anything to fall back into old habits. It is known, comfortable and allows you to deal with it due to the distraction and familiar actions/feelings. A recovering alcoholic or even a former smoker would have the same issues. Just remember that when you fall or fail, it is just another chance for you to rise up and above.

Thanks mate I appreciate the reply. I know I've done myself no favours but I was holding out hope that the 4 cones from a water bong total over the 2 months was not that big amount for my body not to flush most of it out and be under the cut off levels.
