    Taxes on Inherited Money
I am on SSDI due to disability. I know that it will not effect my ssdi, however. I wish to use the modest sum to purchase a modest mobile home in an age 55+ community. I am worried that an inheritance tax will not leave me enough to make that purchase. I live in Massachusetts

The good news is that there is no inheritance tax imposed either by the federal government or by the state of MA. And as an heir you are not responsible for any estate taxes that may have to be paid, whether to the feds or MA - that's the responsibility of the executor of the estate to take care of, and is only an issue for estates valued at $5.25 million and above. So as an heir you have no tax consequences from this inheritance whatsoever.
