I plan to apply for government security clearance but have pending charges
I am graduating with a phd in electrical engineering within a year and will be applying to positions with defense contractors that require security clearance. I live in Pennsylvania and was charged with a misdemeanor for failure to render aid (hit and run) and summary offenses for harassment and damage to un attended object. My trial is in a few days and they have offered to drop the misdemeanor in exchange for additional summary offenses. My understanding is that summary offenses can still be problematic for clearence. There are factual circumstances that would show me to be the victim of road rage if the judge allows info on the other driver to be admissible.

In short should should I take this to trial? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

If you go to trial will you win? What does your attorney see your chances. If you are really innocent or if you feel they can not prove case. You go to trial. If you are really guilty and they can easily prove it, you try for good deal.
