Sprained ankle- should I see a doctor?
Yesterday I hurt my ankle playing sport. I jumped and landed on it awkwardly which made me feel a pop.
I couldn't put any pressure on it and today it's bruised and swollen and still hurts to walk.
Should I go to the doctor? I've been using the RICE method at home and taken some pain medication, but will I be needing a splint and crutches?
If I went what would be the most probable thing they would say, not sure if it's worth it!

Sprained ankles take a long time to heal. Sometimes they can be worse than a break. RICE is good. I also used to soak mine in hot water that had Epsom salts in it. I would alternate the ice and hot water. When you return to sports you probably will want to wear a brace for a while. I've rolled my left ankle so many times on the tennis court that there is nothing left to injure.

I'd see a doctor. Why? Its possible its more than a sprain. I screwed up my leg pretty bad a number of years ago... thought it was a sprain at first. Ended up going to the ER the next morning because I had a gut feeling this was different, even though I've had a few sprains before. Won't go into details of the actual injury, but it involved surgery, and my leg will never be what it was before though most people would never notice, I can run or jump, I can't support my body weight on the ball of that foot (no problem doing it on the other) Basically lost 80% of my strength below the knee.on that leg. Of course going to the ER right away wouldn't have changed that in my case..
