    Air Conditioning
    Hi,

When I turned on my air conditioning this season, the air wan't cool at all. The air felt the same as it did outside. We have a heat pump unit. The termastat seems fine and there is air coming out of the vents its just not cool / cold.

    Thanks,
    Andy

Do you hear or feel the outside compressor kick in? Stand next to it and have someone else turn on the AC and lower the stat. If the compressor kicks on you will hear it. If it is kicking on call a pro for a freon check. If it doesn't kick on call the same pro anyway.

If you call someone and they tell you that you need "Freon" be very suspicious, as he is almost certainly a scam artist. You never add a refrigerant without major repairs to fix the leak. You most probably have an electrical problem that is causing it not to either get control voltage (24 volts) to outside unit or the breaker is tripped. You will need to get a good digital meter to check it out. You absolutely cannot check it out without using a multimeter. Here are some manuals: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...20Diagrams.zip

About 99% of the time a unit will not work is electrical. If it cools but freezes up or cools poorly it is the result of dirty indoor and outdoor coils and fans. None of these problems require "Freon" (Dupont brand name for refrigerant) unless there is a leak or the coils need to be removed and cleaned.
