How do I stop older Bichon Frise from peeing&pooping all over the house at night?
My 9 year old male, neutered bichon frise keeps peeing and pooping all over the house at night, sometimes during the day when everyone's out as well. We tried crating but recently got rid of it because it had gotten old. We replaced it with a tray but he only relieves himself on it when we're there. Should we get the crate back? And how do we distinguish between having the crate for sleep and for the bathroom? Please help!

How long has this issue been going on? How long have you had the dog? Has he always had potty issues? Have you ruled out something medical by taking him to a vet for a checkup? Have you recently moved? Any big changes in your home?

Put him in a crate. Problem solved. And if he potties his crate, put him in a small crate. Some dogs have poor house manners and need to be re-enforced by treating him like a puppy. Have frequent outtings, be there and praise when he goes potty. Don't let him ever be alone until he starts behaving himself.
