Why do I hear water running in basement drain?
We got 2" of rain last night, a lot but not record-setting. Rain stopped about 5 am, and it's now noon, and I can hear running water in the basement drain. (We do not have a sump pump; lived here 20 years and basement has never flooded.) There is NO backup water or sewage coming out of the drain. I've checked everything else in the house and cannot find any leaks or running water (like a toilet). The drain connects outside to the city sewage water lines. Does it sound like I have a big problem about to get bigger? Or is this something I don't need to lose any sleep over?

Where in the basement do you he4ar water running the loudest? Is your storm drains connected to your sewer? If you have no backup and your water meter isn't turning like crazy then I don't think you had too much to worry about. Good luck, Tom

Shut the water off at the meter. Can you still hear water running?
