I have replaced an old Chandelier for purely cosmetic reasons.
I wired it properly as far I know: There was an "N" on one of the wires from the Chandelier so I assumed this was the neutral and connected it to the white form the box. The other wire I connected to the red wire.
I installed a single bulb to test. The fuse tripped as soon as the breaker was turned on.
Also: The wall switch does not seem to work any longer. There is no "click" when I try to switch it on or off since tripping the breaker.

I have replaced ceiling fixtures dozens of times. I am stumped with this one..

FYI - The new fixture is on a breaker with some wall outlets. The new chandelier has 15x 25W xenon G9s. The old chandelier had 5x 60w incandescents.

You may have a switch loop circuit instead of a through wire. What color was the N wire? How many wires in the ceiling box and what colors on the wall switch?

Describe the wiring in the ceiling box.

I have yet to look inside the wall switch. The lead was red and the N wire was white in the ceiling box. There were also some other wires in the top of the box, but they were not connected to the old chandelier so I didn't bother with them. It appears that everything has been sprayed with some white primer for some reason... It looks like they got lazy while painting the place (it's a new build about 4 years old). I can maybe try to take a photo tonight. Also there are 3 wires coming out of the new chandelier. All with transparent casing... One is labelled "GRD", one "N" and the third unlabelled. Pretty straight forward... if labelled correctly that is.

A red wire would indicate this was part of a light fan combo with 2 wall switches. Check voltage between the red and white. On transparent wire, G is Ground, the smooth wire is Hot and the ribbed wire is Neutral.
